Chester has started to bring me live goldfish. The first one arrived at 11pm yesterday, and the second one turned up this morning. I'm keeping them in buckets in the utility room. They look a little tattered around the edges but they're swimming the right way up, which I take as a good sign.

I think I've tracked down which pond they're coming from, and once the owner gets back to work I'm going to go out and have an awkward conversation.

Update: she says her pond is covered in netting. I have no idea where he's getting them from.

Good grief. Have you looked on Google Maps for other ponds in the vicinity? Are you going to put up a 'found - goldfish' notice on nearby lamp-posts?

I've looked, but the sort of ponds we're looking for are probably too small to show clearly. The two ponds I've already checked are beneath trees and invisible from the air.

Both fish are doing well this morning. Ellie is now determined to keep them, so we'll probably skip the "found" notices.

Thanks - we'll probably want to put them in a pond once their scales grow back and the weather warms up.

I'm planning to call them Whiskas and Felix.
